A Case Study of an Art Therapy's Effect on Maternally Overprotected High School Girl's Perception

Abstract
This study is find out how meaningful an art therapy is to a female student whose mother has overprotected her. The study participant is a 17years girl who has maternal overprotection. The study conducted for 30 sessions with weekly art treatment for 50 minute. The collected materials were classified based on the view of Stake(1995) and Strauss & Corbin(1998). Based on the result of the collected materials, it was classified into six-phase of psychological development in art therapy. The results are as follow. (1) The first art theapy session started from 'avoidance and rejection'. But based on trust and sense of closeness which girl had developed with the art therapist. (2) The second phase was to expression 'old emotions' that were experienced in the early life through maternal overprotection. (3) The third phase was to experience 'new positive emotions'. (4) The forth is the phase to experienced 'new meaning' about 'I' by art therapy and holding of therapist. (5) The fifth is the phase to jump over to a 'new relationship' with others. (6) The sixth phase was to 'bloom lotus' which can bring separation and independence for oneself as the opportunity of development Through this study, it was confirmed roles of art therapist, positive therapeutic factors of art therapy.
